In a world where emotional struggles, relationship challenges, anxiety, trauma, and psychological distress have become increasingly common, the need for skilled, compassionate, and professionally trained therapists has never been greater.
It was this growing need that inspired the birth of Heartwork Academy of Psychology in 2018. We were founded with a clear and purposeful vision: to bridge a significant gap within psychological education in Sri Lanka by providing comprehensive training not only in counselling and psychology, but also in the art and science of psychotherapy.
For many years, students interested in mental health found themselves learning theories of psychology and counselling, yet receiving limited exposure to the deeper therapeutic methods required to facilitate genuine healing and recovery. We recognised this need and made it our mission to create a learning environment where students would gain not only knowledge, but also the practical skills, wisdom, confidence, and professional competence necessary to transform lives.

What began as a vision has grown into a thriving academic community.
By 2026, we have proudly completed:
- 15 Batches of Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy
- 4 Batches of Psycho-Spiritual Theory and Therapy
These achievements represent years of dedication, learning, mentoring, practical training, supervision, and the transformation of countless students who have chosen to make a difference in the lives of others.
Today, our graduates serve in schools, organisations, community settings, counselling practices, and leadership roles, carrying forward the values and standards they learned at Heartwork.
BRIDGING THE GAP IN PSYCHOTHERAPY EDUCATION
One of the greatest challenges in Sri Lanka has been the limited availability of qualified experts capable of teaching psychotherapy in a practical and meaningful manner.
At Heartwork, we recognised this challenge early.
Our programmes are specifically designed to provide students with the therapeutic knowledge, practical exposure, ethical foundations, and professional skills required to work confidently with clients facing real-life psychological difficulties.
We do not merely teach students how to understand psychological problems.
We teach them how to facilitate healing.
